various initiatives under the National Health Mission.



In order to ensure quality healthcare services to every section of the society, the National Health Mission further constitutes of the National Urban Health Mission and National Rural Health Mission.
There are various initiatives under the National Health Mission. Some of them are:

  • Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)
This initiative aims to reduce maternal mortality by providing them with proper government health facilities. Many poor households have received access to public health sector facilities due to this initiative.   
  • National Ambulance Services
In order to provide immediate medical facility to one and all, emergency ambulance service is also provided under the NHM. Ambulance services can be accessed withing 30 minutes by dialing a toll free number. 
  • Free Drugs and Free Diagnostic Service
Under this scheme, free drugs and diagnostics services are provided in order to curtail the medical expenditure of the poorer section of the community.

    Training Activities at Public Health Foundation of India

    Public Health Foundation of India

    Public health refers to the science and art of preventing disease, extending life and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations and individuals. The public health in India suffers from enormous challenges of nutritional deficiencies and infectious diseases of varying kind. This all needs a co-operative public health response to deliver an efficient and affordable health care where proper diagnostic treatments are available to all sections of the society.

    Objectives of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW)



    Health forms a significant part of human development. In any country, to enable ideal health care for the citizens and population, it is important to make the health care system accessible as well as affordable. This is the reason, the country needs to have a close association between State Governments, Central Government and various stake holders. When it comes to functioning of health care in various areas and small towns of India, Constitution of India has broadly identified the role of State Government and the Union Government of India.
    Items like family welfare and population control, prevention of food adulteration, medical education and quality control  in the manufacturing of drugs, are taken care of meticulously.

    The objectives include:

    • To improve and provide easy access to the primary health care services in the country especially in the remote areas
    • To enhance maternal and child health
    • To ensure reduction in population growth rate with an objective to achieve population stabilization
    • To reduce the burden of overall disease in society
